Freedom and Stitches

At the moment, this is mostly a sewing blog, including my sewing both for home and family and for my ebay customers. In future, it may also include freedom-oriented articles that I write.

Here are pics of the Amy Butler Nappy Bags I made. The green one I haven't decided whether I am keeping for myself or giving to the next person who's baby shower I'm invited to. The light-colored one is for my friend, who's baby is due a month before mine is. It'll be stuffed with soakers, diapers, and other goodies when I give it to her. The blue one is mine. All three have changing pads and bags to hold them, as pictured with the green one. They also have zippered wetbags, made from PUL (which is waterproof, for anyone who looks at this who doesn't sew), a few homemade cloth wipies, slots for credit cards in one of the pockets that closes, and clips for keys. They're made from decorator fabrics, from an outlet store in St. Louis that was having a big sale because they're moving. I only pictured the inside of the light-colored bag because the linings of the other two wouldn't show much detail in pictures. The thing in the bottom is the changing pad, in its little case. Some wipies are peeking out of one of the pockets. The seam in the center of the green bag and the blue bag is due to a cutting screw-up, but I like how it looks.

The last picture is of the dozen wool soakers I knitted, from the pattern on the Ottobre website. They are all made of Lion Fisherman's wool and the colored ones were dyed with Kool-Aid--which is fun. The wool sucks all the color out of the Kool-Aid. Kinda freaky. The pattern called for a ribbon around the waist, but I used a few strands of elastic thread, because I thought that would be easier in use than tying ribbons on a squirmy baby is. These still need to be felted--as soon as my dryer gets hooked up and I buy some wool wash with lanolin in it.
